Strength Training for Life: Feeling Strong in Your 30s and Beyond.

Maybe strength training has always felt intimidating to you. I get it, I used to feel the same way. My background was in sports and movement, not lifting heavy weights in a gym. The gym, with all its machines and heavy plates, never felt like my space. But the moment I gave strength training a real chance, everything shifted. Little by little, I discovered just how much more my body was capable of, and that’s when I truly fell in love with it. From that moment on, I realized strength training wasn’t just about muscles; it was about discovering my own power and what I could achieve, both physically and mentally.

More Than Physical

Strength training is not just about building toned arms or defined legs. It goes so much deeper. For women, it’s particularly powerful because:

  • Supports hormonal balance - helps regulate estrogen, progesterone, and insulin, which affects mood, metabolism, and energy.

  • Protects bones and joints - strengthens bones and connective tissue, lowering the risk of osteoporosis and injuries.

  • Boosts metabolism and body composition - helps maintain lean muscle and healthy weight as we age.

  • Improves brain health - enhances focus, memory, and mood through endorphins and other neurochemical benefits.

  • Supports longevity - studies show strength training is linked to lower risks of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic conditions.

  • Builds confidence and resilience - both physically and mentally, giving you a sense of empowerment in everyday life.

At the end of the day, lifting weights is not just about shaping your body. It’s about shaping the way you show up in life.

Why it Matters So Much when We get in Our 30s-

Something happens as we step into our 30s. Our bodies naturally start to lose muscle if we don’t train it. Hormonal shifts become more noticeable, and we may feel changes in energy, mood, and recovery. This is exactly when strength training stops being optional and becomes a true lifestyle choice.

It helps us preserve our strength, balance our hormones, and feel capable, even when life gets demanding. Think of it as an investment in your future self. One rep at a time, you’re building the foundation for decades to come.

My Personal Connection-

When I first started strength training, I didn’t feel like I belonged in that space. I had always been more about sports. But once I stepped into this world and began progressing, I realized that my body could do so much more than I imagined. Suddenly, I was performing movements I never thought I could, moving weights that felt impossible, and facing challe

nges that tested both my body and my mind.

It’s in those moments, lifting and truly connecting with my body, that I focus completely. I talk to myself positively:

“Come on, Ani! You got it. How hard can it be?”  Well, actually, what I really say - in my natural Spanish self- is “dale Ani, dale Ani, vos podés! Tan difícil va a ser?”

That inner voice pushes me forward, rep by rep. And I’ve noticed that each of us creates her own connection with strength training - each finds her own way to enjoy it. But the truth is, once you discover that connection, you fall in love. It stops being just a workout and becomes a moment of pride, clarity, and empowerment.

Falling in Love With It-

I believe each of us finds our own way of approaching strength training. Some may fall in love with the discipline, others with the progress, others with the mental release it brings. What matters is finding your personal connection.

Because once you do, it’s no longer “just a workout.” It becomes something bigger. A ritual that grounds you, lifts you, and reminds you of your strength every single time you show up.

Final Thoughts-

Strength training is not about becoming a powerlifter or a bodybuilder. It’s about becoming the strongest version of yourself - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Especially as we move through our 30s and beyond, it’s one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.

Every weight you lift, every rep you finish, is more than exercise - it’s proof that you are capable and resilient. Every time you pick up a weight, you’re not just training your body. You’re proving to yourself: I CAN DO HARD THINGS! And once you discover that… you’ll never want to stop.
